In recent days, the Marchand administration had said it hoped the facility could welcome its first skaters during the Christmas and New Year holidays. It will be done, on the eve of New Year's Eve.
The final preparations are underway to allow board sports on this date. The service building will not be ready until the spring, but the skaters will be accommodated in temporary trailers in the meantime, the councilor member of the executive responsible for Sports, Jean-François Gosselin, informed the council on Tuesday. . The City specifies that the access ramps will however not be available.
Reservation required
Since the City anticipates a large turnout for this popular facility, it advises athletes that they will need to reserve their place at least 48 hours in advance. This is to “guarantee enjoyable free hockey and puck-stick periods for all participants.” Reservations are made on the City website.
Free skates, helmets, hockey sticks and skating aids will be provided. The schedule of activities is also detailed on the City website.
Parking
The ice rink is located at 10, rue Robert-Rumilly, behind Stade Canac. Free parking spaces for a maximum of one hour are available on Robert-Rumilly Street and at Stade Canac, indicates the Municipality.
“We were keen to make the rink accessible for the holiday break, so that everyone could take advantage of it to skate with family or friends, regardless of the weather conditions. This project demonstrates our resilience in the face of the challenges linked to climate change, which affect outdoor sports. By investing in refrigerated infrastructure, we are promoting the development of sport and its accessibility for all over a longer period,” expressed the mayor of Quebec, Bruno Marchand, in writing.
