Two suspects were arrested in the case of the Saint-Jean and Grange-Canal explosions in Geneva, the Tribune de Genève and 20 minutes revealed on Thursday. Two explosions, in August and November, injured a Patek Philippe employee and the daughter of one of his colleagues.
The Geneva cantonal police arrested a man on Wednesday in Geneva, the federal police did the same in Valais. The two suspects were reportedly under arrest for attempted murder, endangering the lives of others, attempted extortion and blackmail, and use of explosives.
They are two brothers, 28 and 32 years old. The first would be unknown to the courts while the second has a criminal record for acts dating back to when he was a minor.
Contacted, the Public Prosecutor’s Office of the Confederation did not wish to comment on these two arrests, recalling that the investigation is ongoing and that the two defendants benefit from the presumption of innocence.
A contested arrest
The two brothers have no connection with the Patek Philippe company, but both have worked occasionally in the watchmaking world, according to information from RTS.
The lawyer for one of the brothers, Maître Vincent Spira, says he is very surprised by the suspension of his client, who strongly contests all of the facts with which he is accused.
Emotion in Geneva
These two parcel bombs created a stir in Geneva. In August, a man in his forties, an employee of Patek Philippe, was injured in the leg when a bag left on the landing of his apartment on rue Saint-Jean exploded.
A few months later, in November, an explosion in a mailbox in the Grange-Canal district seriously injured the 12-year-old daughter of another employee of the watch company. The Federal Public Prosecutor’s Office and Fedpol had estimated that there could be a link between the two.
