It’s official: the African office of FIFA will be in Morocco

After months of rumors and speculation, the information is now official: the Moroccoand more precisely the city of Rabat, will host a new African office of the FIFA. The fifth of the body at the continental level and the first in North Africa and the Arab world.

This Monday, at the Palais des Congrès in Marrakech, a historic agreement was signed to formalize the creation of this office, just after the CAF Awards 2024 ceremony organized by Morocco.

The agreement was initialed by Aziz AkhannouchHead of the Moroccan government, Fouzi LekjaaPresident of the Royal Moroccan Federation (FRMF) and Gianni InfantinoPresident of FIFA, in the presence of Patrice MotsepePresident of the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

The announcement comes after the meeting last September in New York between Gianni Infantino, President of FIFA, and Aziz Akhannouch, Head of the Moroccan government, on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly, where discussions focused on preparations of the Kingdom for the 2030 World Cup.

Located around the world, FIFA regional offices provide extensive advice and support to member associations, enabling them to develop their football. In Africa, these offices are already present in 4 countries: in Senegal (Dakar), in the Republic of Congo (Brazzaville), in Rwanda (Kigali) and in South Africa (Johannesburg).

The opening of a new regional office in Morocco demonstrates FIFA’s continued commitment to supporting and developing football on the African continent.
