“We have a government, and Justin Trudeau, who deals with internal squabbles instead of the issues that hit hard in people’s lives. Because of this, today I am calling for the resignation of Justin Trudeau. He cannot continue because it is clear, he does not deal with the issues that impact people,” he declared at a press briefing Monday afternoon.
Although he calls for the Prime Minister’s resignation, the New Democratic leader refuses to say whether he would vote in favor of a motion of censure.
“All options are on the table,” he simply said.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Chrystia Freeland, took everyone by surprise Monday morning by announcing her resignation, a few hours before the presentation of the Liberal government’s economic update.
Mme Freeland mentions “disagreement” with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
After a discussion with her boss, the latter would have told her that he no longer wanted her to remain Minister of Finance and would have offered her another position within the cabinet, she said in her press release.
“I concluded that in my eyes the only honest and viable path is to resign from the cabinet,” said the ex-minister.
