Lara Gut-Behrami really launched her season at Beaver Creek, even if victory eluded her.
Third in the downhill on Saturday, the Ticino woman finished 2nd on Sunday in a super-G won by an impressive Sofia Goggia.
Withdrawal from the opening giant in Sölden at the end of October, 13th a month later in Killington in the same discipline, Lara Gut-Behrami is back at the forefront. She picked up her 92nd World Cup podium on Sunday, the 40th in a discipline that she has dominated for years.
At ease in Colorado, the 2022 Olympic champion and 2021 super-G world champion was the first of the favorites to start with bib 9. She delivered a clean round to take the lead. The winner of Saturday’s downhill Cornelia Hütter did not manage to do better, losing 0.12 seconds to place 4th.
Sofia Goggia, on the other hand, knew how to play the tightrope walk on this Birds of Prey, pulling much more tense trajectories than Lara Gut-Behrami while taking – as always – all the risks. And the Italian crossed the finish line almost half a second (0”48) ahead of LGB. The podium was finally completed by the Austrian Ariane Rädler, 3rd at 0”55.
Two top 10s in two days for Gisin
On the Swiss side, Michelle Gisin also did well in Colorado, regaining confidence after a technically complicated start to the season. The Obwalden, 8th in downhill, ranked 9th in the Sunday super-G. Lacking benchmarks, the ‘returner’ Corinne Suter, on the other hand, finished outside the top 15 in both downhill and super-G.
