Ferroviario Maputo of Mozambique won the title of the 2024 African Women’s Basketball League by winning in the final against Al Ahly of Egypt, with a score of 81-72, this Sunday at the Marius-Ndiaye stadium in Dakar.
The Mozambican club thus succeeds Sporting Club d’Alexandrie, double African champion, and wins this trophy for the third time, after its victories in 2018 and 2019.
The Ferroviario Maputo players have had a perfect run, winning all their matches since the start of the competition on December 6.
ASC Ville de Dakar, the host team of this 2024 edition, finished in fourth place, losing to the Rwandan Patriotic Army with a score of 96-94 in the classification match.
This 28th edition of the African Women’s Basketball League saw the participation of ASC Ville de Dakar, Jeanne d’Arc de Dakar, and 10 other clubs, mainly national champions. Joan of Arc was eliminated in the quarter-finals.
The African Women’s Basketball League, also known as the FIBA Africa Women Basketball League, replaced the African Women’s Champion Clubs Cup since the 2022 edition. It is organized by FIBA Africa, the governing body of basketball on the continent.
