Justin Trudeau paid tribute on Sunday to former British Columbia Prime Minister John Horgan, for whom the state memorial service was held in Colwood.
“Few people can match the passion that John Horgan had for his province. He knew how to mobilize parties and governments to achieve great things. A dedicated progressive. A remarkable friend. A proud British Columbian. A great Canadian. Thank you for everything, John,” said the country’s Prime Minister in a publication on the social network X.
The head of the federal government attended the ceremony honoring John Horgan along with New Democratic Party leader Jagmeet Singh and British Columbia Premier David Eby, Global News reported.
The 65-year-old politician died on November 12, after a battle with cancer.
John Horgan was the premier of British Columbia for five years, between 2017 and 2022. He left political life in June 2022, due to health problems.
The former New Democrat was appointed Canadian ambassador to Germany by Governor General Mary Simon in December 2023.
