His choice fell on Andrew Ferguson, who intends to make the Federal Trade Commission a pro-business authority, while fighting “the censorship of Big Tech”.

Donald Trump announced Tuesday, December 10 that he was appointing a specialist in large Tech companies, Andrew Ferguson, to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the American competition authority. “I am pleased to appoint Andrew Ferguson to lead the FTC. Andrew has a proven track record of opposing Big Tech censorship (major companies in the technology sector, Editor’s note) and protecting freedom of expression in our great country”writes the American president-elect on his Truth Social platform. A member of the Republican Party, Ferguson is already part of the FTC, since 2023. He “will be the most pro-America, pro-innovation FTC Chairman in our nation’s history”also assures Donald Trump, adding that“before working for the government, he was an antitrust litigation attorney with several Washington law firms”.

At the beginning of December, Donald Trump announced that he was appointing Gail Slater as head of the antitrust department of the Department of Justice, a choice suggesting that his future administration would closely monitor Big Tech. “Big Tech has done whatever it wants for years, stifling competition in our most innovative sector”the president-elect then said. The Department of Justice and the American Competition Authority (FTC) are jointly leading five legal cases against large technology firms, including Amazon, Apple and Meta. They recently won a legal victory against Google and now want to force the internet giant to part with its Chrome browser.

Donald Trump also named Jacob Helberg as his next deputy secretary of state for economic growth, energy and the environment on Tuesday. He “will be the champion of our foreign policy “America First”» et “will guide the State Department’s policy on economic diplomacy (…) and American technological domination abroad”said Trump, who will take office on January 20. Jacob Helberg “possesses the knowledge, expertise, and pragmatism necessary to defend U.S. economic interests abroad”he added.
