A psychologist from the Terrebonne region who was the subject of a complaint for inappropriate behavior towards an 18-year-old student to whom he taught at CEGEP, was found guilty following a disciplinary process.
The facts against Charles Dubé date back to August 2016.
He did not honor his profession by paying for and consuming alcohol with the student at a bar on a school day.
Mr. Dubé subsequently drove with her to an isolated location and had sexual contact with her.
Another episode occurred in September. This time, he had invited the young woman to join him, late in the evening, when she had once again consumed alcohol.
After going to a park with her, the man, now 47 years old, again engaged in sexual gestures with the young woman.
Charles Dubé, who was also a singer, had positioned himself as the “victim” of a seductive student and proclaimed his helplessness in the face of her advances as part of his testimony before the Order of Psychologists of Quebec.
However, the disciplinary council of his profession did not accept his version.
“The preponderant evidence demonstrates that the respondent encouraged the development of an intimate and possibly sexual relationship between himself and the student, starting in the winter of 2016 and that this rapprochement continued until the time of their meetings on August 29 and September 1, 2016 in which sexual gestures were exchanged,” we can read in the decision.
“As a psychologist, the respondent must have been aware that this behavior towards a young student was unlawful and seriously inappropriate. He must have known that their relationship was likely to have harmful consequences on the student. These actions are serious and prohibited by the profession of psychologist,” we add.
The sanction hearing will take place at a later date.
