The free distribution of the traditional student diary guide will be able to resume at the University of Geneva (UNIGE). “Exchanges between the Rectorate and the student union made it possible to reach an agreement,” indicates the alma mater in the Journal of the institution. She specifies that the problematic mentions which appear in the document have been contextualized via QR codes.
The book proposed by the University Conference of Student Associations (CUAE) had set fire to the powder, due to two mentions linked to the war in Gaza, namely the slogan “From the river to the sea” and the anniversary of “55 years of the triple hijacking by the popular front for the liberation of Palestine”. The University then banned its distribution and threatened to no longer recognize CUAE.
“In the absence of explanations, these mentions lent themselves to divergent interpretations and could seriously offend and divide part of the members of the university community. The proposed contextualization makes it possible to remove these ambiguities, it rejects nationalist readings of the slogan and promotes peaceful and multicultural coexistence in the Middle East,” concludes UNIGE.
