Professor Sambou NDIAYE deplored on Tuesday the lack of resources allocated to universities for the implementation of the 2015 law allowing these institutions to assume their socio-territorial responsibilities.

“Until president, the Senegalese State is slow to provide the technical support systems and the financial means to allow universities to exercise this function,” he regretted.

Professor NDIAYE also urges universities to divorce themselves from the vision tending to consider their neighborhood as simple beneficiaries of social initiatives.

“Universities still remain in a unilateral, hierarchical approach with a humanitarian tendency, reducing communities to simple beneficiaries,” he said.

“Communities constitute spaces for the production of Knowledge,” indicated the teacher-researcher who calls for strengthening participatory research.

He was speaking on the sidelines of the opening of a strategic framing and consolidation workshop of the International University Society Network (REIUNIS). This four-day conclave is organized by the Alliance de Recherche-Action Université Territoire (ARUT) laboratory of which he is the coordinator.
