The Stellantis group has decided to move production of the future Citroën C4 from its Madrid factory to that of Kénitra, in Morocco, from 2028, according to the Spanish media La Tribuna de Automoción.
In addition to Stellantis which will transfer the manufacturing of the Citroën C4 there, Kénitra is also home to suppliers and subcontractors specializing in the manufacturing of automotive components, contributing to the region’s industrial ecosystem. Among them, Gergonne Morocco, which supplies components to manufacturers such as Renault and PSA, as well as leading equipment manufacturers such as Eurostyle, Sumitomo, Aptiv, Reydel, Valeo and Grupo Antolin.
This relocation constitutes a significant challenge for the Madrid factory, which will have to identify new activities to maintain its viability.
On the other hand, for Morocco, this decision represents a strategic opportunity, consolidating the Kenitra factory as a major pillar of Stellantis automobile production.
Currently, the Moroccan factory, reinforced by an investment of 300 million euros in 2022, has an annual production capacity of more than 400,000 vehicles.
It notably produces the Peugeot 208, as well as the Citroën Ami, Fiat Topolino and Opel Rocks-e electric quadricycles. From 2026, it will also host the manufacturing of the new Multipla model.
This transfer highlights the rise of Kenitra as the nerve center of Stellantis’ industrial strategy, while contributing to economic growth and job creation in Morocco.
