Collective mobilization to eliminate HIV/AIDS by 2030 in Senegal

The Minister of Health and Social Action, Dr. Ibrahim Sycalled, this Tuesday, for a mobilisation collective to achieve the ambitious goal of eliminating HIV/AIDS in Senegal by 2030. Speaking at the opening of Scientific days on AIDSheld at CICAD of Diamniadiohe stressed the importance of an integrated and innovative approach to achieve this objective.

Integration and innovation as strategic pillars

Dr. Sy insisted on the need for complete integration of health servicesincluding care related to HIV/AIDS, to guarantee universal access to prevention, screening and treatment. This approach is based on the National strategic plan (2023-2030)aiming for a multisectoral response against AIDS, tuberculosis, viral hepatitis, and STIs.
Innovation, for its part, plays a central role with solutions such as:

  • THE self-test VIH for rapid and confidential screening.
  • The PrEP for increased protection of vulnerable populations.
  • The development of digital tools and technological applications to raise awareness and educate populations.

Expected impact and assessment

Evaluating the impact of these efforts goes beyond simply reducing infections. The minister insisted on indicators such as:

  • The improvement of the quality of life people living with HIV.
  • And equitable access to care.
  • The reduction of the stigmatization through inclusive and harmonized health systems.

A collective responsibility

Dr. Sy recalled that the elimination of HIV/AIDS relies on the collaboration of all stakeholders: government, NGOs, researchers, health professionals, communities, and financial partners. He also called for integrating feedback from experts and communities to adapt programs to real needs.
