As part of the promotion and valorization of medicinal and aromatic plants from Morocco, a framework partnership agreement in research and development was signed on November 26, 2024 in Taounate between the National Agency for Medicinal and Aromatic Plants (ANPMA) , represented by its General Director Pr Dalila Bousta, the Sidi Mohammed Ben Abdellah University (USMBA) of Fez, represented by its president Pr Mustapha Ijjaali, and the LAPROPHAN group, historic leader in the pharmaceutical industry and African pioneer of R&D in its sector, represented by its Vice-President Reda Bennis.
This Convention is in line with the alliance between Laprophan and the USMBA for biomedical research, initiated in April 2021.
This strategic partnership brings together, through these three renowned institutions, the academic world, scientific research and the pharmaceutical industry to develop innovative solutions and strengthen the health sovereignty of the Kingdom, with the ambition of developing new high-quality products based on plants, whether food supplements, cosmetics or medicines, by replacing imported products with 100% Moroccan alternatives.
The three institutions are thus committed to carrying out innovative research on medicinal plants with nutritional or nutraceutical properties. This work will contribute to the creation of safe and effective products meeting health needs in accordance with the best international standards.
The partnership also includes the development and improvement of best practice protocols for the cultivation, processing and control of raw materials, in order to guarantee optimal quality of finished products.
Another priority of this convention is raising awareness of the rational use of medicinal and aromatic plants as therapeutic alternatives. Congresses, seminars and scientific days will be organized jointly, accompanied by continuing education programs intended for health professionals, pharmacists and researchers.
Finally, this initiative aims to position Morocco as a key player in the field of medicinal and aromatic plants, in particular through the emergence of internationally competitive phyto-medicines. It will also promote preclinical and clinical studies, while strengthening the exchange of skills and reflection around phyto-therapeutic innovations.
This unique partnership, supported by ANPMA, USMBA and the Laprophan laboratories, aims to provide Morocco with a major advance in the sustainable development of medicinal and aromatic plants, by leveraging natural resources, scientific expertise and the industrial know-how of the Kingdom.
