“Standard has finally found its boss”

At Standard, the supporters have been waiting for a long time to be able to rejoice again. This time, maybe they have a reason to do it.

During last weekend’s match against Cercle de Bruges, Ivan Leko made a choice that still seemed impossible before the international break. The coach decided to start Arnaud Bodart again, who went for many months without playing.

A beneficial experience

A profitable choice with a goalkeeper who brought confidence in his defense and in the team in general where Matthieu Epolo had been able to bring doubt in recent weeks with several beginner errors which were costly.

And Philippe Albert was not mistaken about Bodart’s performance: “His experience was beneficial to him. For a goalkeeper who goes several months without playing, it’s never easy to find his feet again. He played simply and pulled out saves when necessary to keep his team afloat.”

“Standard has found the boss”

Also present on the set of ‘La Tribune’, Marc WIlmots agreed: “He has confidence in the Standard. The public at Sclessin has always adored him. From his first intervention, the public was with him. C He is a child of the house. He is not afraid and reassured everyone.

For Cécile De Gernier, there is no doubt, Standard has finally found the player it was missing, the one who is capable of bringing charisma to a group that lacks it: “Standard’s defense has found a boss. It’s a team who lacks charisma, and he has it.”

As for what Rouches will have to do with Epolo, Wilmots concluded: “We have discovered a good goalkeeper in the making in Epolo. Nothing is definitive in football. The staff is there to support him. Standard now have two good goalkeepers, that’s the most important thing.”
