Joint PNH-Kenyan Forces operation: Major offensive in Bas-Delmas

The Haitian National Police (PNH), supported by Kenyan soldiers, carried out a large-scale operation in the Bas-Delmas area on November 24, 2024. This intervention aimed to dislodge armed groups and restore a certain stability in a capital plagued by growing insecurity.

According to police sources, around ten alleged members of the Viv Ansanm criminal coalition were neutralized. These individuals are allegedly involved in several acts of violence, including kidnappings and extortion. However, no detailed official report has yet been communicated.

During the raid, heavy exchanges of fire were reported between the police and members of the armed group. Several properties belonging to Jimmy Cherizier, alias Barbecue, leader of the Viv Ansanm coalition, were reportedly damaged. However, the main leader of the group remains untraceable, once again escaping the intervention forces.

This operation takes place in a context of unprecedented security crisis in Haiti, where armed gangs control large portions of the territory, paralyzing economic and social activities. Although this offensive marks an important step, the authorities recognize that additional efforts will be necessary to dismantle criminal structures and restore order.

In the wake of the intervention, a timid resumption of activities was observed in the surrounding area. Shops, public administrations and educational establishments reopened their doors on Monday, although tension remains palpable in the population.
