Essaouira – The Hungarian Film Days, an exceptional cultural event highlighting the richness of the Hungarian cinematographic experience, kicked off on Monday in Essaouira with the screening of the film “Bad Poems”.
This cinematographic event, enhanced by the presence of the Advisor to His Majesty the King and Founding President of the Essaouira-Mogador Association, Mr. André Azoulay, the Hungarian Ambassador to Morocco, Miklós Erik Tromler, diplomats, as well as other personalities from the world of culture and cinema, is part of the celebration of the 65th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Morocco and Hungary.
Organized by the Essaouira-Mogador Association in partnership with the Hungarian Embassy in Rabat and in collaboration with the Hungarian National Film Institute, this event, which continues until July 3, aims to strengthen ties between the Kingdom and this country.
Speaking on this occasion, Mr. Tromler welcomed “the excellence of relations between Morocco and Hungary”, emphasizing the importance of such events to promote better mutual understanding and consolidate the bonds of friendship and collaboration between the two countries.
“Cinema is a powerful vector for bringing people together,” he noted, stressing the crucial role of culture as a bridge between nations, capable of enriching exchanges and promoting the values of diversity and mutual respect.
In a statement to MAP, Mr. Tromler specified that this cinematographic meeting is intended as an invitation for the Moroccan public to discover and appreciate the different facets of the 7th art and Hungarian culture.
“On the occasion of the celebration of the 65th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Morocco and Hungary, we will organize various cultural events throughout this year, such as various exhibitions, film meetings, artistic workshops and musical events,” he added.
In this regard, the Hungarian diplomat expressed his wish to see these initiatives encourage new artistic exchanges and collaborations between the Kingdom and Hungary.
“We hope that these events will help to raise awareness of Hungarian culture among the Moroccan public and create opportunities for dialogue and partnership between our artists and cultural institutions,” he continued.
“Bad Poems” (Hungarian: “Rossz versek”) directed by Gábor Reisz and released in 2018, is a comedy-drama that follows the story of Tamás, a 33-year-old man who, after an emotional failure, undertakes an introspective journey into his past to understand what went wrong in his life.
Through a series of often absurd and poignant memories, “Bad Poems” explores themes of loss, regret and the search for self.
With an inventive visual style and non-linear narration, this cinematic work (1h 37min) mixes humor and melancholy to offer a sincere and touching portrait of the life and loves of a man in search of meaning.
