A tragic accident occurred in the Italian province of Brindisi, in which a young woman lost her life.

The young woman pressed the elevator button. The doors then opened before the car had reached her floor. As she entered, she fell three floors onto the roof of the elevator.

Her father alerted the emergency services shortly after 6pm. He heard his mobile phone ringing in the lift shaft and immediately had a terrible feeling. The young woman was dead when she was found.

Cause of accident unclear

Authorities are now investigating the cause of the accident. Initial reports suggest that it may have been a malfunction in the locking system that caused the doors to open when the elevator was not there.

The man described his daughter in the “Corriere” as a “solar” girl with many dreams. She wanted to get her driving license, become independent and get married one day. She had worked as a cleaner in hotel guesthouses.

A day before the tragic accident, the young woman posted a photo on Instagram. Under the photo, she wrote: “To what can happen.”
