The underground garage of a building located on Rue de Vevey in Bulle was engulfed in flames on the night of Monday to Tuesday. Two people died from carbon monoxide poisoning. Around twenty people were injured.

A fire broke out in Bulle on the night of Monday to Tuesday, in the underground garage of a building located on Rue de Vevey. Although the fire was quickly brought under control, heavy smoke spread to buildings 233 to 219, the Fribourg police reported in a press release.

A 52-year-old man and his 13-year-old daughter died of carbon monoxide poisoning. A 48-year-old woman was airlifted to hospital by REGA. About 20 people were also poisoned and taken by ambulance to hospitals, while about 90 people were evacuated.

The residents will be relocated with acquaintances and temporarily in hotels in the area. In total, around sixty vehicles were in the underground garage and were damaged.

Rue de Vevey is closed for an indefinite period for the aftermath of the intervention. An investigation is underway to determine the exact causes of the disaster. Firefighters from the Bulle, Vaulruz and Marsens departure bases, as well as the mobile psychosocial emergency team have been mobilized.
