Taxis are mobilizing in Toulouse this Tuesday, November 26, 2024. The movement concerns medical transport professionals, ensuring the journey of patients between their home and their place of care.

As they announced, taxis will not stay on the Ramblas. As day breaks over Toulouse, they begin to leave the area to go to different care centers: Pasteur clinic, Oncopole, CHU Purpan..

Obviously, traffic is complicated on the Ramblas. Police are on site to clear the way for taxis, but it is best to avoid the area for the moment.

The taxis set off firecrackers. Very little police presence on the Ramblas, according to our journalist present on site.

7:45 a.m. The reasons for anger

If the taxis are mobilizing this Tuesday, it is purely to protest against the future conditions of medical transport, a large part of their activity, especially for artisans who live in rural areas.

Measures envisaged as part of the examination ofu social security budget, currently in progress. A budget which notably plans to impose shared transport, but also to lower the price per kilometer. “On average, we work at €1.60 per km. Today, we are being offered €1.10 for the next five years,” explained Stéphane Abeilhou to Toulouse News in an interview last week.

The taxi unions met yesterday evening with the management of Health Insurance in Toulouse, but claim not to have had frank answers to their questions on prices.

“We were promised a clear, clear and precise answer yesterday and we didn’t get it,” sighs Rémy, taxi in Escalquens. We've been on death row for a year (in Toulouse, the first taxi demonstrations on shared transport took place last January, editor's note), and we don't know how we're going to be eaten. Nothing has changed, except that they announced this price reduction! »

7:36 a.m. Taxis from Haute-Garonne and surrounding departments

Haut-Garonne taxis of course came in large numbers, but neighboring departments are also mobilized. Like Samuel, president of the taxi union ofhears.

“The project will affect all taxis in . » He predicts: “these are the firstfruits. There will be other, harder moves. »

7:25 a.m. “We have no recognition of our profession”

Dorothée, a taxi driver for thirteen years, came from Comminges to demonstrate this Tuesday. She is against the shared transport of patients which aims to require taxi operators to transport several patients together, without taking into account their pathologies.

“It’s anger that dominates. We have no recognition for our profession. We will no longer be able to do our job properly. Shared transportation is not possible. In my village, there is a psychiatric retirement home, transporting two people at a time is not possible. It is the sick who suffer. “

7:15 a.m. Nearly 200 taxis camped at the Ramblas

As announced, the taxis found themselves in Toulouse city center : between 150 and 200 vehicles found themselves there in the early morning.

They must then join different health establishments in the Toulouse metropolitan area to set up filter dams.

“It’s an educational operation, not a blockage,” insists Stephane Abeilhou, spokesperson for the National Union of Taxis of Haute-Garonne (UNT 31).
