a danger for swimmers despite formal prohibitions – Telquel.ma

MDespite the prohibition signs, jet skis continue to circulate at high speed among swimmers, endangering the safety of vacationers. Machines that often accelerate to exit directly onto the sand, increasing the risks for children and summer visitors who are walking or playing nearby.

The nuisances are not limited to safety alone. The deafening noise of the engines disturbs the peace and quiet of the beach, while fuel pollution has a negative impact on the marine environment.

Residents and summer residents have long expressed their discontent and concerns to local authorities, in particular the governor of Benslimane and the commune of Bouznika, but the situation remains unchanged.

During busy days such as weekends, residents and visitors are on constant alert, fearing the worst at any moment, a situation of which the renters are fully aware. But they still continue this illegal trade which earns them 400 dirhams per quarter of an hour of rental.

Prohibition signs, while in place, remain ineffective without rigorous enforcement of regulations and immediate action to enforce the ban on jet skis in Bouznika Bay.

Setting up lanes for jet ski traffic, away from swimming areas, could be an interim solution to avoid any accidents. Regular patrols and severe penalties for offenders would also help deter illegal operators.
