Ultra-galloping inflation: terrible rise in the price of bananas

A banana taped to a wall, work by the Italian conceptual artist Maurizio Cattelan (another of whom artwork is an effigy of John Paul II on earth struck by a meteorite), was purchased for $6.2 million by a Chinese-American entrepreneur in New York, in the Sotheby's auction room. The price went from $800,000 to $5.2 million, or $6.2 million with fees.

Justin Sun, founder of the cryptocurrency platform Tron, said:

“It’s not just art. This represents a cultural phenomenon that creates bridges between the worlds of art and the cryptocurrency community.”

He promised to “eat the banana into a unique artistic experience and honor its place in both art history and popular culture.”

The work has been talked about a lot since its first exhibition in 2019 in Miami, where another artist ate it to denounce its price, at the time $120,000. The conditions of sale provide that the buyer is given a certificate of authenticity and instructions for replacing the fruit.

Welcome to the crazies.
