Switzerland has some of the strictest naturalization rules in Europe. And, since the famous satirical comedy The Swiss Makers of 1978, the situation ultimately changed little. Four times, between 1983 and 2004, the population refused any relaxation of procedures. And this until February 2017, when a majority finally approved (at 60.4%) facilitated naturalization, but only for third-generation foreigners.
