Pension, social rates, reimbursements… What is changing in Belgium this July 1, 2024

As we enter next month, a number of new measures will be implemented in BelgiumBetween the pension bonus, healthcare reimbursements, or even the social tariff, all these new features will see the light of day and come into force from July 1, 2024.

The reintroduction of the pension bonus

Indeed, the pension bonus will soon have to be reintroduced in Belgium and will even be counted from 1 July, in the case of employees affected by retirement from the beginning of next year. The objective behind this measure is clear: to encourage employees to delay their retirement as much as possible by granting them a bonus on salary depending on the justified additional work period.

Reimbursements for people with cancer

People suffering from cancer often undergo therapies that cause side effects such as hair loss. From the beginning of July, these patients could benefit from a help with purchasing a wig or any other accessory intended to cover the head.

This also applies to people requiring complex dental care following cancer. Thus, new reimbursement conditions will be applied in order to facilitate access to difficult dental restorations.

Social tariffs for gas and electricity which change from July 1

While the social tariff for electricity will soon be falling, that for gas is about to increase, according to the latest calculations carried out by Creg, the federal regulator of energyThus, the social tariff for electricity will fall by 5.5% compared to the second quarter, while that of natural gas will increase by around 2.9% on average.

It should also be noted that a social energy tariff bonus will be granted to families who do not have access to the traditional social tariff. This aid concerns households heating their homes via a collective installation and will be effective from July 1 as well.

Simplifying the name change procedure

From now on, any adult citizen of Belgian nationalityrecognized as a refugee or stateless person wishing to benefit from a change of name or a combination of the names of both parents, will be able to do so with the municipality without having to go through a complex legal procedure.

Reduction of the minimum volume of exhaled air during an alcohol test

Going from 1.9 to 1.2 liters, the minimum volume of air exhaled during breathalyzer tests will have to drop at the start of next month. Thanks to this new measure, the police services will be able to save considerable time, since some people often had difficulty reaching the previous threshold.
