Following numerous concerns regarding the health risks linked to these products, the police carried out a raid on Tuesday morning at the Hay Hassani market. Aljarida24. Accompanied by agents of authority, they seized a large quantity of rotten meat, provoking the anger of the residents. Red meat, poultry and merguez, unfit for consumption, were stored in deplorable hygienic conditions. Nearly 98 kilos of products were confiscated then sprayed with disinfectant before being destroyed, in order to avoid any clandestine recirculation.

The authorities have promised to strengthen controls in the city’s butcher shops and to extend these operations to other districts of Casablanca. They also insisted on the need for traders to scrupulously respect health standards and regularly disinfect their premises.
“It’s a shame to endanger people’s health for a few dirhams,” people were outraged on social networks. “This has to stop, we are afraid for our families.” Some traders are demanding exemplary sanctions against their unscrupulous colleagues who tarnish the image of the profession.
