Apple’s elusive iPhone 17″ Air has been the subject of a plethora of leaks and rather confusing rumors as of late. This new member of the iPhone 17 lineup is expected to carry a premium price tag, even though it lacks some key features.
For starters, the iPhone 17 “Air,” or whatever Apple decides to call it, will feature a single rear camera, unlike the triple-camera setup that adorns the “Pro” variants of the iPhone for over five years. The rumored 6.6-inch screen isn’t the biggest Apple has to offer either, thanks to the gigantic 6.9-inch iPhone 16 Pro Max – the same will likely be true for the 17 Pro.
However, as the name suggests, the iPhone 17 “Air” will be a surprisingly thin smartphone. The iPhone 17 “Air” is rumored to be around 6mm thick, making it Apple’s thinnest smartphone in over a decade. The iPhone 6, launched in fall 2014, the iPhone 6, launched in fall 2014, featured a slim 6.9mm body and has held the crown for thinnest Apple smartphone since it saw the day.
That being said, it’s worth keeping in mind that despite a 6mm thin body, the rumored iPhone 17 “Air” will be nowhere near as thin as Apple’s 2024 iPad Pro (currently at 1 $799 on Amazon), which is only 5.4mm thick. Other features of the iPhone 17 ‘Air’ include the A19 SoC paired with 8GB of memory, a 24MP front camera, and the 48MP rear camera mentioned above.
Interestingly, this new iPhone 17 “Air” variant won’t be the only Apple product to receive the slimming treatment. As Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman previously reported, Apple has apparently reignited its obsession with thinness, and future MacBook Pros, Apple Watches, and iPhones are expected to feature thinner bodies as early as next year.
