The supermarket giant alerts its customers after the theft of confidential data.

New theft of personal data from a consumer giant. After Boulanger and the operator Free, it was Auchan which was the victim of a cyberattack. The supermarket group announced this to its customers in an e-mail sent to “hundreds of thousands” of people and which it is very important to read, in order to avoid an unpleasant surprise.

The email, entitled “Important information regarding your personal data”, explains that people who hold a loyalty account with the brand have seen their personal data stolen. This could even have financial consequences for affected customers.

In its message, Auchan indicates that elements linked to the identity of people (first name, last name, date of birth, family composition) and their contact (e-mail, postal address, telephone number) were stolen by hackers. Furthermore, the criminals had access to loyalty card numbers as well as the amounts of the prize pools accumulated thanks to these cards.

This is where the problem lies because, in possession of this data, cybercriminals can use the sums in these accounts as they wish. “We have strengthened controls in the event of your loyalty card being withdrawn,” assures Auchan, however, which specifies that bank card numbers, passwords or other pin codes have not been stolen.

For Auchan loyalty card holders, vigilance must be increased. Indeed, in possession of this very personal data, the scammers could then send emails with personalized information (identity, family, etc.) in order to gain confidence in the recipient and push them to click on a false link which will ask for contact details. bank cards.

To prevent any risk, the supermarket giant reminds customers that it “never asks to communicate personal codes or identifiers in any way. If you receive a message of this type, do not click on any links.”
