Four research projects on diabetes were rewarded on Saturday in Rabat as part of the 6th edition of the Sanofi Diabetes Research Awards.
This scientific event, held in the presence of a host of researchers, academics and national and international professionals from the medical sector, aims to contribute to the development of biomedical research, particularly in diabetes.
Thus, in the “Adult and Childhood Diabetes” category, first prize went to the Department of Endocrinology, Metabolic Diseases and Nutrition of the Mohammed VI University of Health Sciences in Casablanca, while the second was awarded to the Endocrinology-Diabetology Department of the Moulay Ismail Military Hospital in Meknes.
Concerning the “Digitalization of diabetes care” category, the first prize was awarded to the Department of Endocrinology-Diabetology and Nutrition of the Mohammed VI University Hospital Center in Oujda, while the second prize was awarded to the Mohammed VI Polytechnic University of Benguerir.
Speaking on this occasion, the representative of the Ministry of Health and Social Protection, Fatima-Zahra Mouzouni, highlighted the various major institutional, political and social reforms undertaken in the field of health in Morocco, under the the aegis of HM King Mohammed VI, as well as the initiatives and programs implemented to promote the health sector.
This Prize aims to encourage innovation, recognize efforts and support initiatives that transform the daily lives of patients and their families, underlined Ms. Cherif Hamdi, noting that “this event reflects our collective commitment in the fight against a disease that impacts profoundly millions of lives around the world.
“As we look to the future, we want to help control diabetes through our therapeutic solutions, education programs, services, applications and connected devices,” she said, expressing her proud to contribute with all institutional and scientific partners to the development of biomedical research in diabetes in Morocco.
The scientific program of the ceremony, led by an audience of specialists and academics, was structured around two panels: “Diabetes in schools: how to meet the challenge of raising awareness” and “Type 2 diabetes: therapeutic developments and technological for optimal patient care.
The ceremony was also marked by the presentation of symbolic trophies to the members of the jury.
This scientific event was preceded by a press conference devoted to the organizational and scientific aspects of this event. There was also discussion of placing emphasis on childhood diabetes in schools, as well as the “Kids and diabetes in schools” initiative, which aims in particular to improve knowledge of diabetes in schools among students and teaching and administrative staff.
