In brief:
  • Isabelle Freymond opposes a conviction for several traffic offenses.
  • She did not notify the police after a material accident, which is punishable.
  • The MP wants to avoid the suspended sentence, preferring to pay the fines immediately.

MP Isabelle Freymond explained herself on Friday before the Police Court in Yverdon. The elected official from Gros-de-Vaud (ex-socialist), social worker and private trustee, opposes a conviction by the Public Prosecutor for several traffic offenses.

Return from Lausanne

She recognizes the facts. In October 2023, after a meal with friends in Lausanne, she returned to LEB and returned to her car parked in front of the station in her village of Assens. She then damages two walls and takes the road back to her house. Failure to notify the police is punishable. “I saw the video,” said the judge. You completely take the walls, you get out of the car for two seconds and you leave straight away. The defendant replied that she “did not think” of calling the police “for two small walls”, but without fearing a potential breathalyzer test: “I had only drunk two glasses of wine while eating.”

Find work

Isabelle Freymond wants to pay the 20 day fine “immediately”: “I am opposed to the suspended sentence. I want to be able to immediately request an expungement of the criminal record and find work more quickly, otherwise I risk ending up on social assistance,” she explains. The judge appears perplexed: “I am not your lawyer, but you have no criminal record and if I pronounce a sentence without suspension, that would mean that there is an unfavorable prognosis… You intend to commit again crimes? Your argument is particular…” Judgment expected next week.
