Alpine skiing legend Lindsey Vonn will try at age 40 “to return to competition” more than five years after the end of her career, the American Ski Federation announced Thursday.
The star with 82 World Cup victories indicated in her federation’s press release that she was “looking forward to reuniting with the American ski team and continuing to share (her) experience of sport with these incredible women”, without however indicate a specific return date.
The American announced in February 2019, at the age of 34, that she was ending her career after yet another injury, regretting that her body was “broken beyond reason”.
But Vonn had successful knee surgery in April and was able to return to skiing without pain. Rumors have been growing in recent weeks regarding his possible return.
“Being able to ski again without pain has been incredible,” the skier said in the press release, without giving a specific return date.
“I try not to move too quickly,” she said in an interview with the New York Times published Thursday. “But of course I have ambitions. »
“My goal is to enjoy and hopefully it will take me to the World Cup,” she added.
The announcement of his return to competition comes after that of another sporting legend: Marcel Hirscher. The Austrian, who now races with the Dutch jersey, also ended his career in 2019 but made his return to the world circuit last month in Sölden.
