On Wednesday November 13, Sytral Mobilités announced a new unified transport network, which should simplify peri-urban services from next September.
This afternoon, Bruno Bernard, president of Sytral Mobilités, announced the deployment of a brand new unified network, from September 2025. This will allow residents of peri-urban areas to benefit from the TCL offer which will now bring together the three TCL, Cars du Rhône and Libellule transport networks.
This unified network will have a single ticketing system, in order to facilitate the journey of residents of peri-urban areas, “It will now be possible to move from one place to another, without worrying about changing your transport ticket”explains Damien Combet, Vice-President of the Communautés de communes de la Vallée du Garon.
A new offer which should allow residents of more remote communities to easily access the city center of Lyon, and thus make saturated car traffic more fluid.
A system of zones to simplify this unification
In order to simplify the unification of the three transport networks, TCL will have a zone system, depending on the location of the lines. If zones 1 and 2 will concern the current TCL perimeter, slightly extended, zones 3, 4 and 5 will allow users to go to peri-urban areas, until now not served by the red bus lines.
Prices will then vary depending on the areas chosen, but will remain advantageous for everyone, according to Bruno Bernard, president of the Métropole de Lyon and Sytral Mobilités: “Obviously the person who does Belleville-Lyon will pay more than the person who does Villeurbanne-Lyon, but for all that, everyone remains a winner”he assures. Prices which will remain the same for users of zones 1 and 2, but which should be less expensive for former users of the Cars du Rhône and Libellule services. The new price list will be voted on during the board of directors meeting on Thursday, November 21.
A brand new logo
In order to support this strengthening of the transport offer, the TCL network is getting a facelift and unveiling a brand new visual identity. A TCL logo, now initials of TCL, Cars du Rhône and Libellule, witness to this new union. “We thought a lot about choosing this new unifying logo, we decided to keep TCL but to modify the logo in order to give it a new dynamic” explains Jean Charles Kohlhaas, first vice-president of Sytral Mobilités. The deployment of this new visual identity, estimated at 3 million euros, must be completed at the end of 2026.
A future desire to combine the TCL offer with TERs in the region
Ultimately, Sytral Mobilités would like to develop a combined offer with the region's TERs, covering the areas served by TCL. A feasible project, but which requires the agreement of the region, “p“For the moment there is no agreement with the region for TER, but as soon as it gives its agreement, we will be ready”affirmed Bruno Bernard.
