The French Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Jean-Noël Barrot, welcomed, Monday evening in Paris, “the model partnership” of north-south cooperation that France maintains with Morocco.
Speaking at the closing of the first day of the Paris Peace Forum, in the presence of HM the King’s ambassador to France, Samira Sitail, political leaders, business leaders and civil society actors coming from the four corners of the world, the French minister stressed that with Morocco “we are now looking towards a future that we have decided to build and defend together”.
“We have decided together to launch a renewed partnership for the years to come and we will make it even stronger,” he said.
Mr. Barrot also called for a new approach to cooperation with Africa.
“We must do more and better with Africa because we have a long history with this great continent. Because we have many challenges in common,” underlined the head of French diplomacy.
Placed under the theme “In search of a world order that works”, the 7th edition of the Paris Peace Forum hosted several sessions dedicated in particular to geopolitics, peace and conflicts: the war in Ukraine and the conflicts in the Middle East and Sudan in particular.
The second day of the Forum will be marked, Tuesday, by thematic events initiated by partner organizations. These sessions will address critical global issues such as nutrition, agriculture, cyberspace and management of essential minerals, among others.
Founded in 2018 at the instigation of French President Emmanuel Macron on the occasion of the commemoration of the end of the First World War, the Paris Peace Forum’s mission is to address global challenges such as climate change, poverty and inequality, security and the rise of new technologies, by building new forms of collective action that complement the work of multilateral institutions and contribute to the establishment of lasting peace.
