The Organization of Islamic Cooperation, the Arab League and the African Union signed a document for the creation of a tripartite cooperation mechanism aimed at supporting the Palestinian cause.

The document was signed on the sidelines of the Arab-Islamic summit held Monday in Riyadh, according to a statement released Tuesday by the Saudi Foreign Ministry.

“The Organization of Islamic Cooperation, the League of Arab States and the African Union Commission signed the document of the tripartite mechanism aimed at coordinating the efforts of the three organizations to support the Palestinian cause,” we can read in the press release.

The signing ceremony took place in the presence of Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan and a number of representatives from Arab and Islamic countries, according to the statement.

The mechanism aims to “intensify joint efforts between the three organizations and strengthen common action in all matters relating to the Palestinian issue,” according to the statement.

The Organization of Islamic Cooperation includes 57 Arab and Islamic countries, some of which are members of the Arab League, which includes 22 countries, and the African Union, which includes 55 countries.

In its final declaration on Monday, the Arab-Islamic Summit called on the UN Security Council to intervene to achieve a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and Lebanon.

As a reminder, after clashes with factions in Lebanon, including Hezbollah, which began after the launch of a genocidal war against the Gaza Strip on October 7, 2023, causing more than 146 thousand victims between dead and injured, Israel expanded the scope of the genocide since September 23 to include most areas of Lebanon, including the capital, Beirut, with airstrikes of unprecedented intensity, and launched a ground invasion in the south, ignoring international warnings and UN resolutions.

The aggression against Lebanon left more than 3,000 dead and 14,000 injured, including a large number of children and women, in addition to approximately 1.4 million displaced people.
