As part of the 2024-2025 Cultural Season centered on the theme “The Living”, the French Institute of Morocco (IFM) and State of Emergency of Poetic Moments (EUIP) join forces to pay tribute, this month of November, to the artist, Khalil El Ghrib.
Born in 1948 in Asilah, Khalil El Ghrib is recognized for his poetic mastery of the material and his ethical commitment to art. Refusing the commercial market, he dedicated his life to an artistic practice that transcends material constraints and focuses on symbolism and impermanence, as the IFM recalls in a press release. In his works, he uses natural and reclaimed materials – straw, copper, quicklime – which capture the cycle of life and decay. His painting, subtle and introspective, questions the link between the visible and the invisible.
The tribute paid will thus animate the sixth edition of State of Emergency of Poetic Moments, an event which highlights In Situ creation, at the heart of public space. The works of Khalil El Ghrib presented will dialogue with those of Ahmad Karmouni, Mohamed Ahnach, Mohssin Harraki and Mohamed Larbi Rahhali.
Also on the program, a cycle of films dedicated to the artist at the Maison Mauresque du Jardin, allowing an immersion in his universe, a meeting-conversation around his work with Hassan Bourkia and Mohamed Al Achaâri, or even creative workshops and guided tours.
