At 80, Sylvie Vartan made a big decision. After his series of concerts, the singer decided to stop her career. On the occasion of an interview for our colleagues from Parisianduring which she was questioned by readers, David Hallyday's mother returned to several subjects including her relationship with Johnny Hallyday. Indeed, one of the readers pointed out to him: “You have shared the stage with many artists…”.
To which Sylvie Vartan responds: “To tell the truth, it was only with Johnny that I really shared a stage, that we really sang together. I did duets especially for the Carpentier shows on television, it was a lot of fun. But on stage… It's always the same story, you have to be free. With Johnny, it was also a way of seeing ourselves”she says, laughing.
Sylvie Vartan talks about the end of her career
During this interview, Sylvie Vartan returned to her decision to leave the stage.
“I'm not going to have the strength to sing for twenty more years, it's not possible, I'll be gone, my life is behind, I realize it”she reveals, not without emotion.
The singer notes that with the passage of time, it is very difficult to give so much to the public.
“I no longer have the same energy as when I was 20. And it’s only going to get worse… Let’s do things while I still have the strength” .
The singer reveals what music has allowed her to achieve
Can his fans still hope for a return to the stage in a few years? “I always make decisions on the fly, quickly, instinctively, without asking myself too many questions. Now that it's happening, I'm in dramatic fear, because I'm there. I don't want to think too much about what's next…”, believes Sylvie Vartan. “Singing in public allowed me to express my feelings, to experience things and to share them. A real antidote to everything else…”.
So, it is with regret that she must leave her audience.
But Sylvie Vartan knows it, her career has been immense and her impact on her audience significant. It's time to rest. “Above all, you have to have passion. I was very little when I wanted to be an artist. I said to myself, it's great to play, it's wonderful, I didn't know about fame, I didn't know that you could make a living from it”.
