Horrible workplace accident: fatally crushed under a ton of steel

A worker in his thirties met a tragic end, crushed under more than a ton of steel rollers, Thursday afternoon, in Pointe-Claire, in the west of the metropolis.

The tragedy occurred a little before 2:30 p.m., in the premises of the Diversified Ulbrich company, a steel distributor located on Hymus Boulevard.

For some reason still unknown, rollers of steel fell on the man, who had no chance.

His death was pronounced on the spot. It was an obvious death, according to our information.

Firefighters were dispatched to the scene to recover the victim, who was initially inaccessible, trapped under the rollers weighing more than 2,000 pounds.

Montreal police investigators were dispatched to the scene, in particular to establish whether there was criminal negligence in this case. But at first glance, no criminal element would be involved and it would be an unfortunate accident.

Inspectors from the Commission for Standards, Equity, Health and Safety at Work were to go to the site at the end of the afternoon to try to establish the circumstances of the tragedy.
