Sharjah – The 43rd edition of the Sharjah International Book Fair, in the United Arab Emirates, which is held under the theme “Thus we begin”, opened on Wednesday, with Morocco as the guest of honor.
The opening ceremony of this cultural event, organized by the Sharjah Book Authority, was enhanced by the presence of HH Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council of the United Arab Emirates and Emir of Sharjah, of the the Moroccan ambassador to the Emirates, Ahmed Tazi, the director of the Moroccan Archives Foundation and general delegate of Morocco to the Sharjah Salon, Latifa Moftakir, as well as several other personalities.
On this occasion, tribute was paid to several researchers and historians representing a number of Arab countries, including Morocco, who contributed to the creation of the Historical Dictionary of the Arabic Language, a 127-volume encyclopedia developed over seven years.
The Moroccan pavilion, mounted at the Sharjah Expo Center over an area of approximately 190 m2, highlights the various aspects of Moroccan culture, celebrating its rich heritage and the works of its writers and thinkers. It offers visitors the opportunity to discover the rich history and diverse civilizational heritage of the Kingdom of Morocco.
Placed under the theme “The Morocco of cultures in Sharjah of books”, the Moroccan pavilion offers a rich cultural program with no less than 107 events bringing together around a hundred writers, authors and publishers and covering various cultural and artistic fields and literary, in addition to a series of sessions dedicated to the discovery of Moroccan cuisine.
The show also allows the public to explore Moroccan heritage through conferences, theatrical and artistic performances, round tables and workshops for children on decoration and textiles, in addition to the presentation of 4,000 titles exhibited by 25 art houses. Moroccan edition.
Morocco’s artistic program as guest of honor includes a series of musical and choreographic performances, presented by Moroccan troupes representing various artistic styles such as Gnaoua music, Aïssaoua music and Taskiwine dances.
In a statement to MAP, Mr. Tazi affirmed that the choice of Morocco as guest of honor of this cultural event testifies to the solidity of the ties uniting the Kingdom of Morocco and the United Arab Emirates, noting that the participation Moroccan heritage will be marked by its diversity and richness, establishing itself as a true showcase for promoting Morocco’s deeply rooted cultural heritage.
According to the organizers, this edition brings together more than 2,520 publishers from 112 countries, who, in addition to a rich collection of books and literary works, will present, over 12 days, more than 1,300 artistic events.
The Sharjah International Book Fair, the first edition of which dates back to 1982, at the initiative of HH Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, has established itself over the years as one of the largest book fairs in the world.
