US presidential elections
Our file
Kamala Harris fails, like Hillary Clinton in 2016, to become the first president of the United States. According to exit polls, voters preferred the Democratic candidate by 54% to 44% for Donald Trump. Men made the opposite choice in the same proportions. It is still too early to know whether women voted more, as early voting in some states suggested.
But one observation is already clear: the gap between the two sexes was not greater than in previous elections. This comes as no surprise to Kelly Dittmar, research director at the Center for American Women and Politics. “Studies show that partisan label is more important than gender. Because she was a woman, Kamala Harris certainly generated enthusiasm, but among people who were ready to vote for her. The candidate also managed to raise a huge amount of funds,” continues the researcher.
