LThe ax fell this Wednesday, November 6. The Auchan retail distributor, experiencing a “steady decline in attendance”, presented to its staff representatives on Tuesday a draft social plan, known as the “return to growth plan”, threatening 2,389 jobs in France. Around ten stores, including three hypermarkets and a supermarket, will close.
In Dordogne, only the Marsac-sur-l'Isle hypermarket, which employs 320 employees, is affected by the job cuts. Six people are expected to lose their jobs in this store located on the outskirts of Périgueux: four employees and two managers, according to the CGT.
“It’s very hard”
“Local management confirmed it this Wednesday morning during an exceptional Social and Economic Committee (CSE), deplores Sophie Serra, CGT central delegate. And the six employees concerned were informed orally on Tuesday by their respective managers. There are four salespeople in the household appliances and sound department and two executives, one in the non-food department, and the other in charge of planning. It's very hard, a brutal shock to Marsac. A hammer blow. They are elders. Périgueux [en réalité, Marsac] is a small store, these are people you have known for almost ten years. »
In 2020, during a previous PSE (Employment Protection Plan), there had already been 11 job cuts in this hypermarket, according to the trade unionist. “Our priority will be to negotiate departures as best as possible to allow employees to get back on their feet with training and reclassifications,” adds Sophie Serra.
The CEO of Auchan also announced reductions of 25% in space in 60% of the brand's hypermarkets within three years. Nothing filtered through there in Marsac-sur-l'Isle.
Contacted, local management returns the ball to the national hierarchy. “We can neither confirm nor deny”, assure the communication services. We will have to wait for the next exceptional CSE which will be held near Lille, Wednesday November 13 and Thursday November 14. According to the national management, the PSE will include “a phase of voluntary departures and responsible measures negotiated with the social partners”.
