Quebecer Anthony Mantha was frustrated twice in the same sequence during the match against the Montreal Canadiens on Tuesday.
First, the Calgary Flames forward managed to stand alone in front of Samuel Montembeault at the very end of the initial period. The Habs goalkeeper, however, had the last word by standing up to the Quebecer’s backhand feint.
But what is perhaps most frustrating for the 30-year-old is that this is his last appearance in the match.
Moments after his escape, Mantha was checked along the ramp by Emil Heineman. When returning to the ice for the second period, the Flames announced in a publication that their forward would not return to the game, hampered by a lower body injury.
Mantha is off to a good start to the season with the Flames with four goals and seven points in 12 games. He also has a plus-6 differential.
We will have to see depending on the nature of his injury, what kind of absence we should expect for someone who was a first round pick in 2013.
