As Americans anxiously await the outcome of this historic presidential race, Washington is preparing for the worst.

The District of Columbia is bracing for another violent attack from Donald Trump supporters if he loses to Kamala Harris.

The White House complex has taken on the appearance of a fortress. A black metal fence more than two meters high was added to the already very strict security measures.

Federal and local authorities fear scenes reminiscent of the deadly assault on the Capitol on January 6, 2021. That day, a pro-Trump mob ransacked the halls of Congress, while the then-president spread lies about his electoral defeat.

Donald Trump has already begun to question the integrity of the vote even before the ballots are counted, notably in Georgia. In the southern state, top Republican election officials and the courts have denied allegations of fraud, but that hasn't stopped the Republican candidate from repeating them, creating an atmosphere of suspicion and hatred.
