At the municipal level, discussions are still continuing in several municipalities to form majorities. The Socialist Party could well join forces with the PTB.
An alliance of the left and the far left is taking shape in two Walloon municipalities and one in Brussels. This is particularly the case in Mons where, according to our information, the list of the Mayor, PS, will form an alliance with the PTB. There is a pre-agreement and it is being finalized. With 26 seats out of 45, the majority is short, but there would be no tripartite. The Greens would therefore rush into opposition: the party lost half of the seats in the last municipal elections. And for Les Engagés, even if a meeting is planned this afternoon with the PS, the leader has already said it: governing with the PTB is out of the question. Mayor Nicolas Martin is not commenting at this stage.
Let’s move on to Molenbeek where Catherine Moureaux’s PS has left to form an alliance with the PTB. 23 seats out of 45 is too tight. We will therefore have to find a third partner.
Finally, in Herstal, the PTB is the priority contact. Frédéric Daerden launched the negotiations, but will not comment before a local internal meeting scheduled for this evening.
The PTB is more than expected to enter these three majorities. Finally, you should know that there are three days left to negotiate, agree and formalize all of this, even if this deadline can still be postponed a little in Wallonia.
