More than half of young people from the asylum field aged 16 to 25 are now receiving training in Switzerland, which is significantly more than five years ago. Young mothers are the least likely to undertake this approach.
Concretely, 52% of young people aged 16 to 25 who arrived in Switzerland in 2017 followed post-compulsory training within five years, compared to only 37% for people who arrived in 2012, wrote Monday the Federal Office of statistics (OFS).
A detailed picture
The gender gap is significant: while only 34% of young women who arrived in 2015 started training, this was the case for 54% of men. Parenthood is probably an important reason for this difference between the sexes, explains the OFS.
Since the establishment of the Swiss Integration Agenda (AIS) 2019, the Confederation and the cantons have set themselves the objective, according to the OFS, that two thirds of refugees and people admitted on a provisional basis and refugees aged 16 aged 25 follow post-compulsory training within five years after their arrival in Switzerland. The new FSO analysis presents for the first time a detailed picture of the situation before the AIS.
