Residents of the Valencia region (southeast of Spain), devastated at the start of the week by dramatic floods, are being asked to return home on Sunday due to the danger of further intense rainfall.
Floods in Spain also hit the city of Taragona, in southern Catalonia, due to heavy rainfall, according to local media.
La Sexta Noticias shared images of streets under water on the X network. The media also announces that residents have received notice from the authorities to go to higher ground.
Yesterday evening, the National Meteorological Agency (Aemet) launched a new “red alert“for the southern coast of Valencia between 6 p.m. and 11 p.m., with possible precipitation of 90 liters/m2, or 9 cm, in one hour, raising the possibility of storms”high intensity“.
As the first drops of rain fell on the south of the city and the sky became more and more threatening, the police warned residents by megaphone of this new alert and the risk of heavy rain and asked them to return home. . The same scene unfolded in other areas of the city, such as the Torre district of Valencia.
The red alert was lifted in the evening. But orange vigilance remains activated: “The risk of heavy rain remains significant over the next few hours. In some areas it will continue to rain for part of the day on Monday“, warns the Aemet on X.
