The prospects are good and encouraging in the Democratic Republic of Congo for controlling the Mpox and cholera epidemics. In his epidemiological table presented at the twentieth meeting of the Council of Ministers, Roger Kamba, Minister of Public Health, Hygiene and Social Welfare, presented figures pointing to the control of these two epidemics.
“Regarding Mpox, he reported a decrease in cases from 688 to 603 and a drop in lethality from 1.51% to 1.12%. This downward trend is observed in the country for three weeks, since reaching the peak of the epidemic curve at the 38th epidemiological week”, says the report of last Friday’s meeting.
“Regarding cholera, there is also a decrease in the number of new cases from 480 to 461, with a slight decrease in the number of deaths from 9 to 8, i.e. a drop in lethality from 1.95% to 1 .67%. The most affected provinces remain North Kivu, Haut-Katanga and South Kivu. The province of North Kivu represents 59% of cases in the entire country during this week.
The Minister of Public Health, Hygiene and Social Welfare subsequently presented the program for the start of vaccination against malaria as well as the latest details on the evolution of the situation at the Cinquantenaire hospital.
In its response strategy, the Government of the Republic, via the Ministry of Public Health, Hygiene and Social Welfare, relies on public awareness, prevention and treatment to defeat the Monkeypox (Mpox) epidemic. .
