The Moroccan fight against terrorism is based on a proactive and integrated approach, which combines intelligence and prevention while respecting human rights standards and the rule of law. These efforts have allowed the Kingdom to accumulate internationally recognized expertise, making Morocco a model of stability in a region marked by persistent security crises.
Stability and sense of security: a national priority
Over the first seven months of 2024, around 641,900 offenses were recorded, almost half of which are linked to attacks on people and property. Crime remains more concentrated in urban areas (69% of offenses) than in rural areas. The Moroccan authorities are pleased with a case resolution rate of 91%, with the arrest of nearly 471,550 people, including 4% minors.
However, the Ministry warns against a feeling of insecurity sometimes exacerbated by the dramatization of certain minor offenses or by rumors and sensationalist media coverage. This perception, although far from statistical reality, constitutes a challenge that Morocco is addressing by strengthening its strategies to combat specific crimes.
Targeted actions against sensitive crimes
The rise in drug trafficking, particularly “L’poufa” (similar to crack), represents a new challenge. Between January 2020 and July 2024, 780 cases linked to this substance were recorded, leading to the arrest of more than 1,000 people and the seizure of nearly 14 kg of the drug. These results demonstrate, according to the authority, the mobilization of law enforcement and local authorities in their fight against these new forms of crime, which threaten public security.
An integrated and inclusive strategy
Morocco is also banking on the modernization of scientific and technical police techniques to ensure the effectiveness of its strategy. Improving the skills of security services and modernizing law enforcement methods makes it possible to increase the effectiveness of investigations. Furthermore, the Ministry ensures that the principles of human rights and democracy are anchored in the maintenance of order, making security a pillar of the stability of the kingdom.
