A 20-year-old young woman lost her life in a road accident on Laure Boulevard, in Sept-Îles, Saturday morning.
According to the Sûreté du Québec (SQ), the accident occurred at 5:15 a.m., east of the airport.
“According to initial information, three people were in the vehicle when it left its lane before hitting a culvert and ending up in a ditch,” said SQ spokesperson Camille Savoie.
The victim was sitting in the back and was not wearing his seat belt, according to the SQ. His death was pronounced on the spot. The two other people in the vehicle suffered significant but non-life-threatening injuries.
The 16-year-old driver may have been driving while impaired.
“Since her ability to drive could have been impaired, blood samples will be requested from the driver,” said Camille Savoie.
Route 138 is closed in both directions to traffic in the area.
An SQ police officer trained in collision investigation went to the scene to try to understand the causes and circumstances of the event. The investigation continues.
