Ceferin “categorically” denies explaining that Vinicius did not deserve the award

UEFA denounced on Saturday false information which circulated on the web attributing to its president statements in which he justified not having wanted to award the Golden Ball to Vinicius, as Real Madrid thinks.

A week has practically passed since the 68th Ballon d’Or ceremony, and the controversy drawer is still full. The evening at the Théâtre du Châtelet was marked by controversy surrounding the Spanish winner, La Roja midfielder and captain Rodri.

A bad player, Real Madrid, who thought they would see Vinicius triumph, decided against all odds to skip the ceremony, thus demonstrating their anger directed at and UEFA. Result: no member of the multi-awarded Madrid delegation was present in to receive the various awards.

“Totally unfounded information”

In accusations with conspiratorial overtones, Real Madrid made it known through the Spanish press that it suspected a UEFA maneuver. Since then, virulent remarks against Vinicius circulating on social networks have been attributed to its president, the Slovenian Aleksander Ceferin, who allegedly explained why Vinicius did not deserve the Golden Ball. Ceferin denied ever having uttered them. In a statement sent to the EFE press agency, UEFA said on Saturday that the words justifying the non-awarding of the Golden Ball to Real Madrid’s Brazilian striker, Vinícius Júnior, “are false”.

The European body also reserves the right “to take legal action against any person involved in the dissemination of these alleged statements”. “We categorically deny the claims circulating about UEFA’s alleged comments on the Ballon d’Or result. Neither UEFA nor its president have made any statement or comment on the results of the Ballon d’Or selection. However. Such information is completely unfounded and does not reflect reality,” condemns other UEFA members cited by EFE. The governing body warns that “any party involved in the dissemination of these false statements” could face legal action. And the bad joke turns against its author.
