a very rare event occurred at Bellewaerde Park! (Pictures)

The last breeding results at Bellewaerde Park date back 20 years. The fact that animal caretakers at Bellewaerde Park found an egg last Tuesday is therefore very good news. The colony consists of 20 males and 21 females.

A large group of flamingos is suitable for breeding. Their nesting is a crucial moment in their reproductive cycle. Among these 21 females, there is also, of course, Flammy! The probability that our famous pink flamingo has laid eggs is therefore 5%. We will soon know for sure if it is his egg… To be continued…

Commitment to pink flamingos

The discovery of this egg rewards the efforts made in recent years. Last year, animal caretaker Massimo Snoeck attended a flamingo workshop in the Netherlands, where he gained valuable knowledge. Last winter, additional investments were made in the flamingo enclosure.

The enclosure was not only enlarged, but it was also covered with a rich layer of clay. To stimulate breeding behavior in the colony, an additional breeding island was created with clay and topsoil.

Currently, we are anxiously waiting to see what the colony will do. It remains to be seen whether nests and eggs will be added and whether the breeding results will give rise to young.
