Nashville Predators defender Roman Josi will strengthen the Swiss team at the World Championship in Prague. The Predators captain finally got the green light from his Tennessee franchise and will join the national team this Thursday. Switzerland enters the fray in Prague on Friday against Norway (4:20 p.m.).
The Bernese defender, who is one of the best players on the planet, strengthens Patrick Fischer’s team for the first time since the 2019 World Cup in Slovakia. Josi has just played his 1000th game in the NHL, but was eliminated from the play-offs with Nashville against the Vancouver Canucks, the team of Zurich’s Pius Suter. “For the Nashville Predators and especially for Josi, the elimination in the play-off obviously hurts me a lot. Conversely, I am extremely happy for Switzerland that we have in the person of Roman a leader and a very valuable team pillar,” rejoices Patrick Fischer about his luxury reinforcement.

Expected in selection since 2019
“Hello everyone, I’m going to take the plane to Prague and I’m looking forward to joining the selection and playing in the World Championship. I can’t wait to see my teammates and you, the fans. See you in Prague, Hop Suisse!” said the Predators player in a video posted on social networks early Wednesday evening.
During the two world finals contested by Switzerland (2013 and 2018), Roman Josi was the key player of the national team. He is one of three finalists for the distinction of best defenseman in the NHL this year (Norris Trophy). A major award that the Bernese had already won at the end of the 2019-2020 season.
